Parent Engagement Committee as opportunity to address LAUSD CAC concerns

Here's the link to the next Early Childhood Education and Parent Engagement Committee meeting scheduled for next Thursday, December 12, 1013. It has an unfortunate late start of 4PM due to Curriculum and Instruction Committee scheduled at 10am, and the Budget, Facilities and Audit Committee scheduled at 1PM the same day. Hopefully the Budget meeting won't go overtime and we can start at 4. As they will be speaking about Local Control Funding Formula, it is possible that public comment will not occur until around 6PM.

School board staffers recently spoke regarding difficulties with our Community Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting structure today and ongoing since PCSB has been helping us. It's been requested that this issue could be placed on the agenda as a whole, but it's full for next week. Officials facilitating the Ad Hoc committee suggest that it would carry weight if members of the CAC and other interested members of the public could come to the meeting and speak to the committee regarding this. The public could ask to have the committee consider this for a future agenda item. If anyone is able to attend, it would be beneficial to the CAC.

our school board will consider a special resolution to

LOWER CLASS SIZE

As parents ~ WE MUST SPEAK LOUDLY IN SUPPORT OF THIS CRITICAL IMPROVEMENT.

There has been some suggestion that this measure is little more than a self-serving trick of organized labor.

We must QUASH this mindset that ignores our children's needs.

KIDS NEED SMALLER CLASSES IN ORDER TO LEARN BETTER

...it's about their education.

Mechanized Schooling.  All learners are individuals; standardization of classes and tests eliminates the unique contribution of a professional teacher to education and learning.

Public School Control By Non-participants.  Educators should drive educational public policy; family and society its social components.  Political demogoguery has no place in our social contract to provide effective Public Schooling for all.

In 1888 children came to Logan St. School in horse-drawn wagons. In a wooden building on the corner or Montana and Logan St. classes began in the oldest school in Echo Park, one of the 10 oldest schools in the city, and perhaps the oldest public structure in the community. On June 1, public officials, school district dignitaries, former teachers and administrators, alumni, students, teachers, parents and community will celebrate Logan's 125 years of service to the children of Echo Park. We would love to know if you are an alum, a former parent or an interested community member who would like to help out with the party or with a donation.
